What Should You Do on Valentine’s Day?

Screen shot 2014-02-14 at 11.48.27 AMThere’s that whole “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?” song, that yes, is very sweet — but I feel like there’s a market for a “What are we doing Valentine’s Day?” that isn’t being tapped into. Except, instead of being a lullaby about if you wanted to hang out, it’d be a zippy tune chock full of ideas for what to do on V-Day. Until that day, though, you’ll have to rely on friends, family and internet for ideas.

So, whether you asked or not, here are my thoughts on what you could do on Valentine’s Day. I should preface this with a round up of two of my favorite V-Days on record.* For one, a few years back, my manfriend traded cars with me, and spent part of the day detailing my car from top to bottom while I was at work. Then, he invited me over, and all dressed up he cooked me dinner and dessert. For the second, my date and I went to a food cart event, tried almost everything, played skee-ball, and danced the evening away.

What you’ll notice about these favorite days is that neither is super out-there, stereotypical, crazy-romantic. Instead, they’re twists on something sweet you and your special sugarbaby might do together anyway.

So, what could you do on Valentine’s Day? You could take the mundane and add a splash of sparkle. Bring your own flowers to dress the table at your favorite dive bar. Get Safeway sandwiches and watch the sunset. Build a blanket fort and look at old photos together inside. Take advantage of being able to get close…and get close.

Whatever you do, and whoever you do it with — even if it’s just treating yourself to something — as long as you do it with love, I think you’re set.

*Runner up was V-Day in London, but that was sort of a league in its own.

  1. Love the idea of adding a splash of sparkle on Valentines Day! So many people just go through the motions which can be a little painful.

Thanks! I absolutely believe low key and done with love is the way to go. If you’re going through the motions…ugh. What fun is that?
